Safer & Stronger Communities

Safer Reading

To make Reading a safer place these agencies have joined forces to form Reading’s Community Safety Partnership:

  • Reading Borough Council
  • Thames Valley Police
  • Thames Valley Probation
  • Royal Berkshire Fire & rescue Service
  • Berkshire West Primary Care Trust

All agencies can play a part in crime reduction and community safety and by working together, engaging and involving local people the Partnership will be able to achieve its vision of making Reading a safer place for those who live work or visit here.

The three key priorities, identified in Reading’s Sustainable Community strategy, for Reading’s Community Safety Partnership are:

  • Reducing drug and alcohol related crime
  • Working together with local communities to make our neighbourhoods safer
  • Helping prevent first time entry into crime and re-offending

Under the Police & Justice Act (2006) all Community Safety Partnerships are required to produce an annual strategic assessment which identifies the priorities they will tackle over the next three years. Through consultation and listening to local people and communities we are able to hear any concerns and what they would like to see happen in their neighbourhoods to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

The information from the Strategic Assessments feeds into its Community Safety Plan and, in turn, the Sustainable Community Strategy. This ensures that changing needs and desires of Reading’s communities are identified and tackled.
